Practical social innovation researcher with interest in urban development (0,8 FTE – 8 months)

We are looking for a practical social innovation researcher who can support the process of tool development and communication about the FP7 research project TRANSIT. TRANSIT (TRANsformative Social Innovation Theory) is an ambitious research project that will develop a theory of transformative social innovation which is about empowerment and change in society. Since you will be based at IHS we give preference to candidates who have an affinity with urban development. This position is temporary and we will offer you a contract for 8 months for 4 days per week. You will spend 2-3 days per week on TRANSIT and 1-2 days per week on supporting the general activities (education, training, research, advisory projects and acquisition) of IHS. The contract will start in the middle of June 2014 and it will last until the middle of February 2015. The salary will depend on your experience and falls within scale 10-11 of the EUR salary scales.


-Develop a (training) tool about game changers and social innovation
-Translate relevant findings of the TRANSIT research into messages for a broad audience (beyond academics) that can be communicated via twitter, facebook, LinkedIn, newsletters, website and other means
-Co-organize an engagement workshop that brings academics, policy makers and social entrepreneurs together
-Support other TRANSIT related activities
-Support IHS activities that include education, training, research, advisory projects and acquisition in the field of urban development
Your profile:
-Ability to update yourself quickly and adapt yourself to changing circumstances (flexible)
-Ability to concentrate and deliver with respect for deadlines
-Knowledge of, experience and affinity with Social Innovation
-Affinity with urban development
-Researcher with a strong link to practical work (understanding the needs of professionals who work in the field)
-Good communicator (using articles, interviews, social media, policy briefs)
-Experience in policy advise and training
-Capacity to work in an international environment
-PhD or MSc+ level
-Fluent in English, knowledge of additional languages (particularly Spanish, Portuguese, French) is an added value
-Familiarity with EU projects (FP7 or earlier Framework programmes) is an added value
