Congratulation to Raffaele Vacca!
Raffaele Vacca was appointed Research Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Nursing, in a joint position with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR). Raffaele is a sociologist and social network analyst, and his main research interests are migration and ethnicity, social networks and health, and scientific and knowledge networks. His research at the UF College of Nursing deals with social networks and mental health in ethnic minorities, social influence and drug use, and the transmission of infectious diseases. At BEBR, Raffaele works on the social networks of immigrants to Europe and US, and the way networks affect immigrant assimilation to host societies. This was the subject of Raffaele’s PhD dissertation in Urban and Local European Studies at the University of Milan-Bicocca, which was funded by the University of Milan’s CISEPS (Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Economics, Psychology and Social Sciences). This was also the focus of a survey on personal networks that Raffaele managed in 2011-2012 in the Sri Lankan community in Milan. At the CTSI and BEBR Raffaele also studies networks of professional collaboration among scientists, their evolution in time and impact on scientific activity, and strategies of network intervention to foster scientific research.
