Postdoctoral Fellow in Human Geography, University of Oslo, Norway

There is a vacant position at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography for a Postdoctoral Fellow (SKO1352) in Human Geography. The position is for a period of up to 4 years with 25 % compulsory work (primarily teaching at the Department). Employment in this position requires that you complete a course in university pedagogics (or gain the equivalent competence) within two years of your start date.

The position forms part of the project ‘Smart Mobility Suburbs’ (SMS), funded by the Research Council of Norway. The project is in cooperation with several institutions, and the postdoctoral fellow will be a member of a research group led by Professor Per Gunnar Røe at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Human Geography. When evaluating the application, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s academic and personal competence to carry out the project. Applicants must also have the capacity for independent academic work at a high level, preferably documented through publications in international journals. Experience with the use of statistical methods and different types of quantitative data, including register data, is required. Moreover, applicants must have a good basis in theories on urban mobilities and/or urban geography. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed upon the academic and personal suitability of the candidate to contribute to the project within the given timeframe. Interviews will be held with potential candidates.

Applicants must have excellent written and oral proficiency in English and preferably also in Norwegian (or other Scandinavian language).
