The Department of Sociology combines scientific research and teaching at the University of Vienna. The Department is influenced by the tradition of the Viennese Sociology dedicated to the understanding of social problems, empirical research and sociological theory. This position covers the research fields international urban sociology and comparative social policy. Duration of employment: 3 years.

Duration of employment: 3 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
• Active participation in research especially in the project application and external fundraising
• Coordination of research projects
• Participation in national and international research cooperations and projects
• Holding classes according regulations and wage agreements, support of students, examination activities
• Contribution to existing scientific publications and independent publishing activities in the fields of comparative social policy or international urban sociology
• Active participation in meetings and conferences
• Organization of international conferences, meetings and symposia
• Preparation / Finalization of a (publishable) habilitation
• Participation in research activities and research administration of the Department of Sociology

• PhD / Dr. in social sciences / urban studies / geography – spatial research, spatial planning
• Excellent knowledge of urban/sociological theories and methods
• Professional competence and research experience in at least one of the following research areas: international urban sociology (urban studies, multilevel governance), comparative social policy, geography – spatial planning (socio-spatial analysis)
• High command of writing scientific texts (english)
• Relevant publication activities
• Teaching experience
• Experience in external fundraising
• Experience in collaboration in national and international research projects
• Organisational talent and ability to work in a team
